How To Increase Your Height?

During childhood and puberty, it’s common to be concerned about your height. We always had few questions during childhood and puberty about ourselves like what will be our adult height or how to increase height.

There are several factors like, nutrition, exercise, rest, etc that contribute to your overall height. People generally stop growing after they hit puberty. However, you can do certain things throughout your adolescence to ensure that you’re increasing your growth potential.

When you’re 18-20 years old. It’s unlikely to grow naturally. Because by this age, the growth plates in the bone areas of cartilage where bones can grow longer — have become solid. The growth plates are active during childhood and puberty. This shows that you cannot increase your height in adulthood but still you can experience a small variation in height. The variation we can see is because the spinal disc is compressed during daily activities. That’s why you look half an inch (1.5) shorter. This height is restored at night when you sleep.

Natural ways to increase your height

Many sources are depicting that how to increase your height. Some say that stretching and some other activities like swimming, cycling, climbing, or doing vertical jumps are the keys to increase your height. However, there’s no scientific evidence to prove this claim true. At most, some of these activities could cause the intervertebral discs to decompress and temporarily restore your natural height. This temporary increment could make someone believe that they’re getting taller but in reality, there’s no magical way to increase height.

Let’s discuss the factors that help you optimize your growing potential during your childhood and puberty.

1. Balanced Nutrients

During the growing year of a child, they must take all the nutrients that the body wants.

Your diet should have:-

  • Fresh fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole Grain
  • Protein
  • Diary Products

You should avoid or limit

  • Sugar
  • Trans fat
  • Saturated fat

You should consume 1,200 milligrams (mg) of calcium per day.

You should consume fruits that have vitamin D in them. Vitamin D also promotes bone health. A common source of Vitamin D is oranges, lemon, tuna, etc.

2. Get the proper sleep

When you’re a grown-up adult your sleep won’t affect your height. But if you’re in your adolescence you should maintain your proper sleep requirements.

Your body releases HGH while you sleep. Production of this hormone goes down when you aren’t getting enough sleep.

It’s suggested that

Children at ages of 3-5 years should get 10-14 hours

Children ages 6-13 should get 9-11 hours of sleep.

Teenagers ages 14-17 get 7-10 hours of sleep.

Adults ages 18-64 get 7-9 hours of sleep.

Older adults ages 65 and older get 7-8 hours of sleep.

3. Do Yoga and Stretches

Regular yoga and stretching have many benefits. It strengthens your muscles and bones, keeps you healthy, and promotes HGH production.

School-going children should get a period of exercise a day. During your adolescence you should focus on:

Strength-building exercise: push-up or sit-ups

Flexibility exercises: such as yoga

Aerobic activities: such as playing tag, jumping rope, or cycling

For a young adult, yoga should be the priority. It will help them stay fit and healthy.

4. Practice Good Posture

Having good body posture not only help you to look taller, but it also helps you to prevent headache and back pain. A good posture help to keep the proper distance between vertebra that makes you look taller.

Should follow the below tips for good posture:

  • Keep your shoulders back
  • Pull the belly towards the spine, with the muscles lightly engaged
  • Keep the head level and in line with the body
  • Place the feet shoulder-width apart
  • Avoid locking the knees
  • Keep the weight primarily on the balls of the feet
  • Let the arms hang naturally at the sides
