Do You Need To Watch Your Eating Habits?

 

Habits mean ‘routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously’. When it comes to eating, we all have strong eating habits. Some can be good, and some can be not so good. Every day we make choices about the food we eat. But we should watch our eating habits regularly. Do we have good eating habits or not? Having an eye on your eating habits can help you to stay fit and active. To be healthy you may need to change some of your eating habits.

Why it is important to watch your eating habits?

There is an old saying, “You become what you eat”, this is true when it comes to your diet. Every food you choose to eat can ultimately affect your health, it affects how you feel. Proper nutrition is essential for your body.

Without watching your eating habits and without monitoring your weight, you’re at a higher risk of developing various health-related problems including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, malnourished and more. Therefore you should watch your eating habit regularly and make the changes according to your body requirements.

 

How to keep track of what you eat?

Keeping track of things is one of the most powerful things you can do to reach your healthy eating habits. One can install mobile applications like MyFitnessPal and other apps where you can enter your foods you had throughout the day and it will count your macro and micro nutrients for you.

There are several ways that you can use to keep track of what you eat, including food tracking apps or websites, notebooks, diaries, etc.

Getting started with the measurements

Start tracking by what and how much you eat and drink each day. Measure your food and beverage amounts.

Use common household measurement tools. Example 250 ml (1 cup), 5 ml (1 teaspoon) etc. You can also use the shape of your hand or common objects to estimate serving like one bowl of salad, one thumb tip of butter. With practice, you’ll get the idea of what and how much you should eat.

Trying to add a new healthy eating habit, instead of breaking the old one, is a good first step towards improving your diet. Here are some common habits that make healthy eating easier for many people.

Start your day with a good source of protein every day. Eggs, yogurt, nuts, seeds, tofu, lean meats, poultry, and fish are good sources of protein.

Keep your eating environment distraction-free. Try to have your meal with your friends and family.

Eat slowly, chew your food properly. It helps in good digestion.

Don’t skip your meal. Regular meals might include 3 meals a day for some people, or 3 meals plus snacks for others. Try to avoid eating outside.
